Appearance:
Some may have a few yellow flecks mixed in the red. Generally speaking, they are bright green (blue cast to the green feathers) with patches of blue, yellow and white. All blue-fronts, flight feathers are green with blue tips; tail feathers have yellow-green tips and red patches. These birds generally show more blue on the face and head and can have the blue extend down into the chest as well. In younger birds, the eyes are brown, while the eyes of adults are orange-yellow. Most juveniles have relatively little colour compared to adults.
Origin:
South western Brasil, Paraguay, Boliva , and northern Argentina.
Personality:
Known as one of the most popular pets, with an excellant talking and mimic ability. They are a very popular companion parrot to own. Fairly easy to raise, but they are more susceptible than other Amazons to common illnesses. They make good family pets. The Amazons are very affectionate, but the males can be difficult after they reach sexual maturity. Good early training is required to prevent the male Amazons from becoming too mean. Mature birds – especially males – may become bonded to one person and aggressively protect him or her from other people.
Amazons can be very strong willed and if the trainer is inconsistent with the bird, it will soon learn that it can rule the roost.

Feeding:
Amazons should be fed a pelleted diet. High protein diet is an excellent staple diet for Amazons, but weaning food can also be fed. The diet should be supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables daily to add variety. Supplements should include sprouted seeds, all types of fruits such as apples, pears, plums, cherries, grapes, oranges, bananas, mangos, papayas, and even berries such as strawberries and blueberries. Vegetables are also good supplements such as carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, many garden vegetables, and even dandelions and chickweed. Amazons are prone to vitamin A deficiency so high foods like dark green leafy veggies, carrots, mangos and sweet potatoes will help insure a long life for your bird. please watch these parrots have a tendency toward obesity and related health issues.
